Strategic Sourcing Specialist - Food Production
The Purchasing & Procurement Specialist will play a vital role in optimizing our procurement processes and reducing costs for our commercial bakery. With over 3,000 raw materials utilized, this position requires a highly organized and detail-oriented individual who can effectively manage the sourcing, negotiation, and purchasing of ingredients, supplies, and equipment parts needed for our production processes.
Responsibilities
Sourcing & Negotiation:
- Source ingredients according to specifications provided by the R&D team and within budget.
- Evaluate and establish relationships with suppliers, vendors, and manufacturers of food ingredients, and packaging materials.
- Negotiate favorable terms and conditions, including pricing, delivery schedules, and quality standards.
- Optimize costs through effective negotiation, volume discounts, and strategic sourcing practices.
- Stay informed on market trends, conduct market research, and evaluate potential new suppliers.
Cost Reduction & Analysis:
- Continuously monitor and analyze purchasing costs to identify areas for improvement.
- Implement strategies to reduce overall purchasing costs while maintaining product quality.
- Prepare regular reports on cost savings initiatives and their impact.
Purchasing & Inventory Management:
- Prepare and send purchase orders to suppliers, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Track and manage orders to ensure timely delivery and address any issues that arise.
- Oversee inventory levels and control stock replenishment processes to prevent stockouts and minimize wastage.
- Manage daily cycle counts and ensure accuracy of data in ERP.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, Operations, QA) to align procurement strategies with production schedules and demand forecasts.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field.
- Experience: 5+ years of proven work experience in purchasing or supply chain or in a similar procurement role within the food production industry.
- Skills: Strong negotiation, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in procurement software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Attributes: Detail-oriented, organized, analytical mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions, demonstrated leadership abilities, and strong organizational and time management skills.
Additional Information:
- This position involves a high volume of data management and requires strong attention to detail.
- The successful candidate will have a proven track record of cost savings, successful negotiations, and experience in the food production industry.
- In-depth knowledge of food sourcing, supplier management, and industry-specific regulations (e.g., HACCP, CFIA, FSSC22000, GMP) is essential.
