Specialized Transportation Driver
Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes is an innovative multi-service community agency offering a full range of community support services to the frail elderly and people with disabilities in their own homes. Community Care’s Specialized Transportation Program provides door-to-door, individualized service to meet special needs. We are currently accepting applications for the position of Specialized Transportation Driver to provide non-emergency stretcher and wheelchair transportation in agency vehicles.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Drive agency vans to transport clients generally those using wheelchairs or non-urgent stretcher transfers
- Escort (arm for support and lifting or transfers) door-to-door clients to appointments
- Use agency issued phone to maintain contact with the office
- Undertake daily inspection of the vehicle and report deficiencies
- Driver training and evaluations as directed
- Gasoline fill up, oil check and vehicle cleaning as required.
KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION (abilities, skills, behaviours).
- Current Drivers’ Licence (Class G) and Clean Ministry of Transportation Driving Record
- Experience working with frail elderly or disabled
- Understanding of safe lifting and transfer practices
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Good communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, good interpersonal skills, and exhibit flexibility
- Good team player
- Understanding of Community Care and Specialized Transportation services
The nature of the job requires the incumbent to be physically able to assist clients, e.g. lift occupied wheelchairs and assistance with stretchers in addition to be available for rotational shifts which includes evening and weekend work
