Salary Range: SP3, Level 5, $92,320 - $115,400 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
Specialist, Business Intelligence & Performance Reporting-Hybrid
The Opportunity
The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is seeking a Specialist role to join the Business Intelligence and Performance Reporting group that is responsible for providing business intelligence solutions to the Operations division. The role will also support regulatory performance reporting to ensure that regulatory decisions in support of the AER’s mandate can be consistent, credible, risk-informed, and informed by data.
As a Specialist you will fulfill requests for data analytics, data collection solutions, product development/sustainment, spatial analysis, dashboards and data visualization used for regulatory decision making. In this role you will be working with customers throughout the Operations Division to help them make better decisions, reduce time-frames, assess situations, and monitor progress. You will work collaboratively with a team of business intelligence data analysts and as a member of this team you will have a prominent role in the development and promotion of best practices for product life-cycle management for business intelligence in the organization.

What your day-to-day will look like:
- Fulfill business intelligence requests in accordance with best practices and tools to present data as meaningful information to help support decision making.
- Develop and maintain metrics, visualizations, reports and dashboards to provide the insight business areas need to effectively manage performance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Manage business intelligence products through the entire product lifecycle in accordance with best practices.
- Participate in the establishment and maintenance of best practices to assist the team in the delivery of standardized business intelligence for the organization.
- Analyze data using the most applicable analytical methods and techniques to extract meaning and insight to help customers solve business problems.
- Gain and maintain understanding of AER business processes and data.
What we’re looking for in you:
- Bachelor’s degree in business intelligence, data analytics, data science, or related fields.
- 5 + years relevant work experience in business intelligence.
- Experience in data gathering, databases, data analysis, spatial analysis and visualization technical skills.
- Experience with business intelligence software (Tableau, MS SQL Server, MS Excel, Power Apps, MS Power BI, Visual Basic, ArcMap, FME, python).
- Critical thinker with creative problem-solving skills.
- Interpersonal skills for the establishment and maintenance of positive working relationships with internal stakeholders.
