As our team grows, we are seeking a reliable Shunt Truck Driver to support our operations by moving trailers safely within our yard and ensuring efficient dock management.
Position Summary
The Shunt Truck Driver will be responsible for transporting trailers within the yard, including placing them on and off docks and scaling them in and out as required. The role involves safe and efficient trailer handling, along with basic paperwork and communication with the yard and shipping teams.
Note: Our trucks are automatic. A Class 1 license is preferred but not mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and report any issues
Inspect all trailers before moving them
Safely move trailers within the yard and to appropriate docks
Ensure trailers are properly secured, with both doors closed and latches hooked
Scale-in and scale-out trailers when required
Hook up and drop/unhook trailers safely and securely
Immediately report any incidents or damages to the supervisor or foreman
Complete all necessary paperwork and submit it to the yard or shipping coordinator at the end of each shift
Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or foreman
Qualifications & Skills
Completion of high school or equivalent
Minimum 6 months of truck driving experience (3 years preferred)
Ability to operate in tight spaces with attention to safety
Class 1 License is an asset (automatic trucks used)
Physically able to lift up to 20 lbs
Effective communication skills in English
Strong work ethic, patience, and attention to detail
Positive attitude and team player
