Position Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and versatile Planning Lead to join the NPA Projects Team at Fort Hills. In this hybrid role, the successful candidate will be responsible for project management, facilities-related design, space planning, turnover, asset strategy and long-range strategy.
This position is responsible for project development activities, governance, project controls, change management and stakeholder management. In addition to support for land use permitting, asset strategies and master scheduling.
This role is ideal for someone with strong planning skills and an interest in managing both operational and facility-related logistics in a complex project environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Short-Range Planning (Daily to Weekly):
•Develop, manage, and maintain project schedules, ensuring that daily and weekly project activities are clearly defined, prioritized, and executed.
•Work closely with field teams, and contractors to identify, assign, and track daily/weekly tasks, ensuring alignment with project timelines.
•Monitor the progress of daily and weekly activities, addressing any deviations or potential delays, and recommending corrective actions.
•Manage stakeholders, by ensuring timely reporting on schedule performance and provide updates on potential bottlenecks or risks.
•Drive Suncor values by creating healthy tension when reviewing project requests. Ensure the minimal technical solution is considered to address the business opportunities.
•Create and management project documentation including scopes of work and decision support packages. Leverage technical support as required from engineering resources.
•Creation of statements of work, purchase orders and work orders to provide cost control.
•Lead MOC, as an MOC leader or supporting engineering with MOC progression.
Long-Range Planning (Monthly to Yearly):
•Manage the Fort Hills land use project to ensure continuity between business unit and SME.
•Develop and manage long-term project schedules, including timelines for design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
•Align long-range project schedules with business objectives, resource availability, and stakeholder requirements.
•Identify and mitigate risks and potential delays by coordinating with cross-functional teams, adjusting timelines as necessary.
•Maintain a master schedule and ensure it is regularly updated with realistic project timelines, milestones, and dependencies.
•Perform resource leveling and ensure projects are resourced optimally to stay on schedule and within budget. Support business planning activities to establish NPA capital and expense budgets.
Collaboration and Communication:
•Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including project management, construction, engineering, operations, and facilities teams, to ensure seamless planning and execution of project timelines and facility requests.
•Regularly update senior management on planning progress, space planning activities, and any facility-related changes or issues that may affect the project schedule.
•Facilitate meetings and discussions to review and resolve space planning, project scheduling, and logistical concerns.
•Coordinate effectively with external vendors and contractors to ensure timely delivery and installation of furniture and equipment, aligning with project timelines.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
•Project Management, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience). PMP, or electrical experience would be considered an asset
•Strong computer skills, include Microsoft, SAP, and AutoCAD would be considered an asset.
Experience:
•3-5 years of experience in project planning/management in the oil and gas, construction, or heavy industrial sectors.
•Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
Skills:
•Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
•Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with cross-functional teams, vendors, and senior management.
•Detail-oriented with a strong ability to prioritize and execute tasks efficiently.
