The Opportunity
We are seeking a Shop Supervisor / Estimator to manage our Yellowknife-based manufacturing facility. This is a key leadership role responsible for day-to-day shop operations, estimating projects, and maintaining strong client relationships.
Relocation to Yellowknife is required if not already a resident as this is a full-time, hands on managerial position.
Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of welders, machinists, and apprentices (up to 20 people) in a fast-paced fabrication environment
- Manage daily operations in a 12,000 ft² shop, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety standards
- Prepare accurate estimates for manufacturing, machining, fabrication, and smaller general contracting projects ranging from $500 to $500,000+
- Oversee production planning, scheduling, and on-time delivery of client projects
- Review and interpret blueprints and specifications to ensure accuracy and quality
- Lead, train, and mentor team members while maintaining a strong safety culture
- Support hands-on troubleshooting of equipment and shop production issues
- Maintain and establish strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and partners
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- 10+ years of experience in steel fabrication, machining, and welding
- Previous supervisory experience in a shop environment
- CWB certification
- Journeyman Welder certification is an asset
- Proficiency with CNC and manual fabrication equipment (plasma, brake, shear, rollers, lathes, mills, etc.)
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
