Settlement Worker
(12 Months Contract)
JIAS Toronto is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to helping immigrants with resettlement in the Greater Toronto Area. JIAS Toronto assists lawfully admitted immigrants and refugees in meeting basic financial, social, legal, and other requirements of immigration. We work to advance the well-being and social integration of newcomers by providing a full range of outreach, support, counseling, training, and referral resources.
We are currently looking for a Settlement Worker to join our team. As a part of the Settlement team, you will be responsible for providing settlement and integration services to newcomers and refugees, ensuring their successful adjustment in Canada. This position is a contract position, offering flexibility to work both remotely and in person at the JIAS offices.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Through a Case Management service model provide clients with supportive counselling, information and orientation, and referrals, to empower them to solve and cope with challenges arising from immigration;
- Conduct in depth assessments of client needs and develop settlement plans
- Provide crisis intervention as required;
- Carry an active case load of newcomer families;
- Collaborate on program initiatives to address settlement needs and connect newcomers to their community;
- Organize and facilitate group information, orientation sessions, and outreach initiatives;
- Liaise with government, community groups, educational institutions, volunteers, and others regarding services for clients;
- Assists clients in navigating government systems including completing required documentation;
- Provide pre-arrival and intake services as needed;
- Ensure recordings/case notes are completed in a timely and fulsome manner;
- Other duties as assigned or required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree or Diploma in a related field such as Human Services, Social Service Worker, or equivalent;
- 2 years of related work experience with newcomers and refugees;
- Experience in the Settlement sector, not for profit sector, and/or in a social service Agency;
- Working knowledge of immigration regulations and procedures;
- Strong computer skills / resource research skills
