Job Description
The Active Equities (“AE”) department invests in large-cap public and pre-IPO equities in North America, Europe, Asia and LATAM. The strategy employs bottom-up and deep fundamental research insights to create a concentrated market-neutral portfolio of high conviction long and short investments.
We are recruiting for a Senior Associate to join the team focusing on companies that support the Energy, Power and Mining sectors. Reporting to the Managing Director, Active Equities, the Senior Associate is responsible for conducting deep bottom-up fundamental research primarily on investment ideas and current portfolio holdings. The position is based in Toronto.
Accountabilitie:
- Work directly with investment professionals on the Energy, Power and Mining domain team to evaluate potential long and short public and pre-IPO investment opportunities
- With guidance, execute investment research and recommendations leveraging domain expertise and deep fundamental research insights within Energy, Power and Mining sectors
- Develop detailed company financial models and perform valuation analysis, including DCF and comparable company analyses; apply statistical analysis to support investment decisions
- Prepare analytical investment reviews and recommendations in collaboration with the team, including industry overviews, written investment memos and due diligence reviews
- Research, analyze and monitor macro level industry trends and fundamental performance of existing portfolio holdings
- Participate in meetings with company management teams, industry experts and analysts
- Increasingly incorporate research insights by leveraging alternative data sets
Qualifications
If you possess the following, we’d like to hear from you:
- The ideal candidate will possess 6-8 years of experience working for an investment management, private equity, investment bank or management consulting firm
- Deep knowledge and passion for Energy, Power and Mining sectors
- A minimum of an undergraduate degree; engineering and/or an advanced degree (Masters, MBA, etc.) an asset
- Achieved high levels of academic performance and exhibit intellectual curiosity
- Strong research, analytical, financial modeling, valuation, technical and problem-solving skills; ability to think creatively
- Core technical skills: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Bloomberg, CapIQ
- Advanced technical skills: Python, SQL, exposure to Big Data workflows and analytic tools
- Strong communication, written and verbal skills
- Highly detail-oriented with an ability to produce high quality work
- Ability to prioritize work and simultaneously manage multiple responsibilities
- Team-oriented and collaborative
- Keen interest in capital markets and the investment research process
