Stoney Education Authority (SEA) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Elementary School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and personal development of students in our K–6 schools. This position will play a key role in building trusting relationships, fostering resilience, and providing early intervention services within a culturally grounded, trauma-informed framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counseling for students with social, emotional, or behavioral needs.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to identify and respond to student mental health concerns.
- Promote wellness and safe learning environments through school-wide initiatives and classroom support.
- Develop and lead proactive mental health strategies tailored to young learners.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with students, families, and staff rooted in cultural understanding.
- Refer students to external mental health and social services as appropriate and support ongoing follow-up.
- Master's degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- Current registration with a professional association (e.g., CAP, ACSW).
- Experience working in school settings, ideally with Indigenous students and communities.
- Knowledge of child development, trauma-informed practice, and culturally responsive care.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
