Research Coordinator III, GEMINI
GEMINI (www.geminimedicine.ca) is a unique big data platform in the Canadian healthcare landscape using advanced methods and analytics to extract and standardize data captured in hospital electronic health records. GEMINI currently exists at 30+ Ontario hospitals and supports the Ontario General Medicine Quality Improvement Network, GeMQIN, a provincial network led by Ontario Health to improve care for general medicine hospital patients. General medicine patients represent 40% of emergency admissions to hospital and are the largest group of hospitalized patients. GEMINI is a collaborative data and analytics platform for all Ontario hospitals to accelerate research and quality improvement, leading to excellent hospital care.
The GEMINI team is seeking a Research Coordinator III to lead of a number of multi-institutional research studies, including the development research protocols, coordinating REB submissions, execution of multi-centre research studies, collaborating with external partners (e.g. ICES), and tracking/reporting of study milestones and deliverables. You will be an integral part of a fun and mission-driven team while working closely with researchers/investigators and clinicians from various expertise and backgrounds.
Duties and Responsibilities
Research Duties (65% of work time)
Initiates and develops research protocols, proposals, grant application processes and protocols
Supports and mentors team members, and provides guidance in project activities and challenges
Ongoing coordination of study activities; day to day project management of timelines, resources, deliverables and study tasks
Chairs research group meetings
Leads presentation of research related information: reports, proposals, publications, presentations, manuscripts, abstracts, newsletters, posters, etc.
Contributes to the interpretation and implementation of project goals, protocols, and plans (including risk management)
Proactively develops processes, tools (workflow, Gantt charts), and resources to support team members and projects
Interacts with multiple externals parties, including sponsoring agencies, government bodies, external researchers and participants
Monitors and controls research regulations, quality, and guidelines, including REB submissions
Provides logistical support with funding partners, confirms and maintains budgets, and arranges forms/liaisons between funder, finance and home institution
Identifies and provides guidance for training opportunities
Day to Day Project and Staff Guidance Tasks (25% of work time)
Leads performance approval plans for their project, and sets targets/goals/strategic plans
Provides training, mentorship, and day to day guidance of Research Assistants, Research Coordinators, students and other staff through capacity building, coaching to ensure research guidelines and best practices are being followed
Supports team wellbeing/growth/recruitment, encourages collaboration, and team focused-approaches; promotes a cross-functional approach within GEMINI
Leads the execution of multi-centre project, manages a project team, and oversees the project and ensures it runs smoothly
Ensures conflicts are resolved appropriately and professionally
Provides guidance about project financials, equipment purchases, and facilitates procurement of services/supplies for research project
Initiate and develop contract processes
Fosters positive and sustainable partnerships with internal and external parties
Negotiate budgets with external and internal parties
Administrative Duties (10% of work time)
Leads meetings with internal team and external parties
Creates communication plan for internal and external partners and leads knowledge translation activities
Ensures maintenance, collection, and entry of study related data in accordance with hospital and privacy regulations
Provides clerical/administrative support and actions strategic direction for projects
Conduct knowledge translation for website and newsletters
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills
Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Research Methods or related discipline and more than 3 years of relevance experience OR demonstrable equivalent combination of specialized education and experience
Demonstrated project planning and coordination skills, particularly for cross-institution research projects with an interdisciplinary team
Proven ability to set and meet priorities and deadlines, and to handle multiple assignments in a time-sensitive environment
Critical thinking with an aptitude for analytical problem solving skills, and independent decision making
Experience developing and facilitating large meetings with many different partners
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills, and able to adapt communication to different audiences
Ability to assimilate new information and concepts quickly
Consistent documentation skills
Excellent attention to detail, resourceful, ability to adapt and learn new skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, reference manage and project management applications
Ability to work discretely with and protect confidential information
Ability to work in a fast paced, adaptable environment
Project management skills are an asset
