Position Description
The Research Associate possesses and applies highly advanced scientific knowledge of innovative research principles, theories and concepts. This Research Associate position will be in a fundamental research group within the Molecular Medicine program to work on early stage drug discovery projects that entail the design, screening, and structural characterization of novel small molecule and/or biologic therapeutic candidates. Applications will span multiple disease areas including infectious disease, cancer, and neurobiology. We are seeking an individual with a passion for science who is eager to learn, has strong initiative, and who will work well within a multidisciplinary team. The Research Associate will be responsible for leading a variety of projects and will report directly to the Principle Investigator.
Here's What You'll Get To Do
- Develop and implement cutting-edge drug discovery methods
- Develop primary and secondary assays against a variety of targets
- Design and carry out small molecule or protein-based biologic screens
- Use biophysical methods to characterize hit-target interactions
- Purification of targets and co-structure determination with ligands
- Write up of project reports, manuscripts, and grant applications
- Present results at relevant scientific meetings and conferences
- Interactions with local, national and international collaborators
- Maintain complete records of experimental data and procedures
- Instruction and/or co-supervision of trainees and other staff
Here's What You'll Need
- Proven track record in small molecule screen design and implementation
- Direct experience in protein purification, biochemical, and biophysical methods
- Deep expertise in structural biology, particularly X-ray crystallography and NMR
- Familiarity with bioinformatics workflows and software packages
- Ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a team
- Ability to quickly adapt and multitask on changing work flows and projects
- Ability to deliver on project goals in a timely manner
- Ability to seek and assimilate new knowledge for formulation of new projects
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives
Education Required
- PhD in drug discovery, biophysics, or structural biology
- Postdoctoral experience in drug discovery, biophysics, or structural biology
Employment Type: Full-Time 1 Year Contract
