The Michael G. DeGroote Centre for Transfusion Research (MCTR) is an academic research centre, in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University. The Centre’s mission is to improve the health outcomes of blood transfusion recipients and donors by advancing innovative research. The McMaster Platelet Immunology Laboratory (MPIL), the laboratory-based arm of MCTR, is dedicated to advancing patient care in platelet-related disorders by delivering comprehensive diagnostic testing and pioneering translational research into immune‑mediated thrombocytopenia.

We are looking for an outstanding researcher to join our award-winning dynamic research team.

Job Summary:

The Research Associate will be responsible for planning, managing, and overseeing a research project. This position requires knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, systematic reviews, public health, and knowledge translation and exchange.

Accountabilities:

• Design, implement, and evaluate knowledge brokering and other knowledge translation interventions.
• Conduct critical appraisals of literature.
• Collect and manage information to conduct systematic reviews.
• Formulate research questions and generate and test hypotheses.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data.
• Devise processes and procedures to make sure that the relevant methodology is applied to the appropriate project.
• Participate with a team in the development of research project proposals for funding and ethics approval.
• Contribute to graduate and undergraduate education curriculum and resource development related to critical appraisal, research methods, and knowledge translation and exchange.
• Author review articles for submission to peer-reviewed journals and books.
• Develop budgets and monitor expenditures.
• Develop relationships, partnerships, and networks between research collaborators and users on a national level.
• Conduct database, literature and web searches to locate documents and articles used for references on various projects.
• Develop and disseminate training and learning packages. Conduct relevant training.
• Create presentations and present at national and international conferences.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Public Health, Nursing, or related field.
• Requires 4 years of relevant experience, including one year of supervisory experience.
• The following is also an asset:
  • PhD in Biochemistry, Immunology, Hematology, or related field preferred, completed within the last 5 years.
  • Knowledge of immune-mediated platelet disorders.
  • Expertise in immunoassays and epitope mapping.
  • Advanced skills in flow cytometry, protein chemistry & structural data interpretation.
  • Strong publication track record.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
