Description

The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant, Institutional Ethnography, Child Welfare Systems. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Research Assistant reports to the Program Lead. The RA will interact significantly with research participants, community agencies and the Lead Investigator(s) of the project(s) to which they are assigned. They will be responsible for coordinating specific research projects.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Project Coordination

  • Develop and maintain contact with university researchers, advisory groups, community agencies, and study participants
  • Lead analysis of several provincial Acts and regulations across all sites in collaboration with research team
  • Organize and attend all project meetings including national team meetings, advisory committee meetings, and research team meetings
  • Take minutes at all meetings and identify/follow up on all action items
  • Demonstrate excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, identifying appropriate actions to any challenges that may arise

Research and Reporting Activities

  • Work closely with community agencies to identify and respond to research support needs
  • Support the analysis of several Acts, regulations and policies
  • Prepare written reports, oral presentations, summaries, and summarized stakeholder feedback
  • Support the creation of tools and resources to share with community partners and agencies
  • Support the development of manuscripts and attend conferences and events as required

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree (preferably in social sciences or other related fields)
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in project coordination and community-based research experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of social and structural vulnerability is an asset
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and oral communication and presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels is required
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge and experience with qualitative research programs such as NVivo
  • Knowledge and experience applying critical policy frameworks in policy analysis
  • Knowledge and expertise in Institutional ethnographic methods
