Organizational Status
The Research Assistant reports to the Principal Investigator and will work primarily in an autonomous role, thus previous experience in research is critical. This position will be based in the Vancouver General Hospital Research Pavilion at Vancouver General Hospital.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The research assistant is required to conduct all duties in adherence with policies of Good Clinical Practice, standard operating procedures, and UBC policies. Strict confidentiality of all study participants must be adhered to. Failure to comply with national, provincial, institutional, or ethical standards could result in significant consequences to the subjects, the study, the Principal Investigator, and the institution. Errors in judgment could harm the subjects, delay the progress of the study, result in loss of funding, or otherwise influence the integrity of clinical research. Non-routine decisions or actions should be deferred to the Principal Investigator.
Supervision Received
The research assistant will be trained initially by the study team. Once trained, most aspects of work will be done independently. The research assistant will report to the Project Coordinator and Principal Investigator. May receive additional direction from other study personnel, as delegated by project leadership.
Supervision Given
Research assistant will not be expected to provide any supervision.

Job Summary
The primary focus of this position is to use the population-based administrative datasets for two research projects related to: 1) gyneaecologic cancer and 2) developmental trajectories in children with ASD. We are looking for someone with experience doing research using population-based administrative datasets in British Columbia. The applicant will be involved in data analysis, ethics applications, liaising with data stewards and PopData BC, literature reviews, helping to draft manuscripts, and helping other members of the lab move their research projects forward as needed.

Work Performed
- Prepare and submit ethics amendments and applications.
- Conducts statistical analysis, such as, but not limited to, propensity matching, regressions, discordant sibling matching etc., as directed by the PI and statistical consults.
- Assists trainees and other lab members with their data analysis and project planning as directed by the PI.
- Prepares tables and figures for manuscripts.
- Aids in the preparation of manuscripts.
- Ensures timely notification of issues/problems to the Principal Investigator
- Other related duties as appropriate

Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own
- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's level degree is preferred.
- Experience conducting women’s health research with population-based administrative datasets.
- Ability to code in R, Stata, or SAS.
- Experience using BC’s Secure Research Environment is an asset.
- Experience with research coordination is an asset.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Effective time-management skills with ability to organize and prioritize duties.
