Cabin Radio is hiring a reporter based in our Yellowknife newsroom.
Your reporting will be primarily written for the Cabin Radio website, with opportunities for broadcast journalism.
This position requires the confidence to quickly write clear, concise and engaging copy and take on a wide range of fast-turnaround news reporting. There is also room to pursue some longer-form investigative journalism.
Your focus will be on civics reporting for many of the NWT's 33 communities – local politics and how local and territorial decision-making affects the lives of people throughout the territory.
You'll help to power a small newsroom that has built a reputation for robust, high-quality and engaging journalism. Cabin Radio won the Canadian Association of Journalists' national Daily Excellence award in 2024 having been shortlisted for the same award a year earlier, and is again shortlisted in 2025's Online Media category.
Note that this role requires, at a minimum, a master's-level degree in journalism or equivalent, three years' experience as a reporter and a demonstrated understanding of reporting in the North.
