About the Role:
Kinnect Support Services is seeking a compassionate Child and Youth Care Practitioner (CYCP) to join our shelter team in Toronto. In this role, you will provide direct supervision and support to youth in a shelter environment, ensuring their safety, well-being, and personal growth. The ideal candidate has experience working with at-risk and homeless youth and is committed to making a positive impact in their lives.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and care for youth residents within the shelter.
- Maintain safety and well-being of all residents.
- Document case notes and enter data in the Shelter Management Information System (SMIS).
- Support youth in developing and following individualized case plans according to City of Toronto Shelter Standards.
- Connect residents with community resources and services.
- Plan and deliver group programming for shelter residents.
- Perform administrative tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or related field (e.g., CYCP, CYC, BSW, SSW).
- At least 1 year of experience working with youth in residential, transitional, or shelter settings.
- Knowledge of challenges faced by homeless and street-involved youth, including trauma, mental health, substance use, and systemic barriers.
- Strong communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Skilled in managing conflict and crisis situations calmly and professionally.
- Proficient in administrative and computer tasks.
Requirements:
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification.
- Valid UMAB and CPI certifications.
- Suicide prevention and intervention training completed (per Shelter Standards).
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (minimum two doses of a Health Canada approved vaccine).
Schedule:
- Day, Evening, Morning, and Night shifts available
- Monday to Friday and weekends as needed
Job Types: Part-time, Casual
Pay: $18.00-$19.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
