As a Recreation Leader you’ll help bring camps, youth programs, and sports activities to life! In this hands- on role, you’ll lead a variety of structured and unstructured recreation programs that focus on fun, skill- building, and safety. Whether you're guiding a group through a creative activity or cheering them on during a game, you’ll be the heart of the action—ensuring every participant feels included, supported, and safe. Ideal candidates are natural leaders with strong communication skills, a knack for organization, and a genuine love for working with people.
Rec Leader I's must have the ability to obtain Emergency First Aid certificate and a CPR C certificate.
Rec Leaders II's must have prior experience as a Recreation Leader, along with a High Five training and/or NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills certificate, Emergency First Aid certificate and a CPR C certificate.
Rec Leaders III's must have two years experience as a Recreation Leader, Class 5 Drivers Licence, along with a High Five training and/or NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills certificate, Emergency First Aid certificate and a CPR C certificate.
Rec Leaders IV's must have three years experience as Recreation Leader, Class 5 Drivers Licence (with ability to obtain Class 4 Licence), along with a High Five training and/or NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills certificate, Emergency First Aid certificate and a CPR C certificate.
All Rec Leaders need:
- Acceptable Police Information Check with the Vulnerable Sector
- Experience participating or volunteering in recreation programs
- Ability to understand, follow and carry out oral and written communications
- Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and co-workers
- Ability to be imaginative and flexible to ensure a fun environment for participants
- Ability to work as an effective team member
- Physical strength and ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Stamina to occasionally stand and walk for a minimum of four hours
- Ability to maintain excellent public relations with participant
- Must have effective written and verbal communication skills
Hourly rates:
- Rec Leader I: $18.72
- Rec Leader II: $20.80
- Rec Leader III: $22.88
- Rec Leader IV: $24.96
The terms of employment are based on recreation programs and/or activity service delivery to meet community demand. Hours of work will be linked to specific programs and/or activities, the hours and availability of work are dependent on program and or activity registrations.
