JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Operations, the Stoney Nakoda Recreation Center Manager is responsible for the planning and budgeting as well as the organization and supervision of the Recreation Centre facility (arena and gymnasium) and related recreation and cultural programs.
TASKS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Arena/Gymnasium
- Develop and promote a broad spectrum of diverse activities and services for all groups, ages and interest levels of Recreation Centre participants
- Administer and coordinate Mînî Thnî minor hockey, including support to Nation representative teams for provincial and indigenous tournaments.
- Administer and coordinate recreation programs in various sports (basketball, volleyball and baseball)
- Administer and coordinate summer youth programs improving sports skills, cultural awareness and tribal enrichment opportunities
- Monitor & supervise the maintenance of the facility and equipment and make recommendations for minor and major upkeep, repairs, renovations and improvements
- Prepare program reports and budgets for all arena and gymnasium-use activities
- Approve and monitor facility use rental requests
- Promote, organize and stimulate good relationships with community and outside communities
- Support the development of the facility through the identification of organizations providing grants for Indigenous recreation facilities and programs
- Reviews and monitors expenditures in accordance with approved budget. Participates in quarterly, semi-annual and annual budget planning sessions
- Support the Director of Operations and CFO in the development and implementation of comprehensive business plans, annual objective and organizational effectiveness strategies
- Manages a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Provides leadership and management to the staff by supervising, coaching and mentoring
- Assesses the competencies of staff and identifies strengths and areas for development by creating individual performance plans that identifies individual performance goals
- Encourages and support staff to explore and utilize areas of development as identified in their performance plan
- Ensures personnel administration is in accordance Stoney Tribal Administration regulations, policy, and acts
EDUCATION, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA/BS in Parks and Recreation, Sports Management, Facility Management or related field preferred
- Certificate in Park and Recreation Centre Management is preferred
- Experience in Arena Management/Ice-making preferred.
- Minimum five years of responsible administrative or supervisory experience in the field.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
- Must have strong leadership qualities and the ability to plan, direct and supervise staff
- Must be able to identify and resolve issues and problems with facility operations and staff
- Must have a strong sense of initiative and be capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of facility management and recreation administration
- Interest in creating program and facility offerings to meet the diverse needs of Mînî Thnî reserve area members.
- Knowledge of the principles of sound financial management.
- Knowledge and ability to plan, organize and supervise minor hockey programs (boys and girls)
- Ability to recruit and retain a strong volunteer base
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently
- Must possess excellent organizational skills and adhere to deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
EMPLOYMENT CONDITION:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must abide by STA policies and adhere to the Oath of Confidentiality
- Fluent in the Stoney Language is considered an asset
