RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities of the Quality Manager include:
- Manage the team: Lead a small lab team including the organization of schedules, time off requests, training, and overseeing the team members annual performance objectives.
- Support coverage of lab duties in lab duties during absences and vacations including:
- Distribution of workload
- Monitor the quality of brewing and cellaring materials as well as other raw materials
- Take measurements and conduct standardized tests on beer/wort to ensure compliance with quality standards; factors such as gravity and pH.
- Manage and monitor the food safety program, facilitate internal audits to ensure program effectiveness and diligence. Communicate any discrepancies with the General Manager and develop an action plan for the team to follow and implement.
- Develop and/or revise standard operating procedures; establish quality standards and develop root cause analysis mindset within the lab.
- Work with the brewing and operations leaders, and lead the lab in analyzing of deviation and preventative/corrective action with a focus on worth (pH, OG), Green beer (IBU, Alcohol, FG,m SRM), yeast (Gen, consistency, viability), BBT (turbidity, O2, C02, Gravity), Micro results and raw materials
- Maintain consistent communication with the Operations and Maintenance Manager, Head of Brewing and Innovation, and Packaging Manager on any discrepancies in product quality or food safety non-conformances.
- Oversee and advise the Director of Quality & Efficiency on all consumer complaints and returns prior to the weekly Strategic Leadership Team meeting.
- Health & Safety: Facilitate safety and training measures in the lab, ensure the team member is competent and trained prior to independently operating testing equipment, report and participate in root cause incidence, oversee the use of lab chemicals, and develop safety preventative measures. Ensure all members follow all safety requirements.
- Operate various laboratory equipment, monitor equipment and test through use of control samples.
- Maintain quality control records of production throughout various processes.
- Working very closely with production team to perform scheduled and random checks on product quality during the production process including final test prior to product release and provide recommendations to correct deficiencies.
- Ensure product traceability, and utilization of ERP documentation entries.
- Participate in bi-weekly process and QC meetings
- Clean and maintain equipment and utensils to make sure quality standards are met.
- Document test results and communicate with management and co-associates of deviations.
- Assist production associates with line & product monitoring as required.
- Perform QC tasks including product sampling, line monitoring, sampling and performance lab testing. Safely, efficiently, and effectively work to attain department and brewery goals and objectives.
