WHAT ON EARTH IS DECIEM?
Known as “The Abnormal Beauty Company”, DECIEM is the parent company of The Ordinary, NIOD, and other beauty brands & is an industry disruptor with a science first approach to innovation. DECIEM was Co-Founded in 2013 by the late Brandon Truaxe, a visionary who set out to change the beauty industry through authenticity and transparency. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a Quality Control Chemist I to join our finished products team to help test and release batches.
This position will be based out of our Manufacturing facility in Etobicoke.
Night Shift Hours are between 11:30 PM and 7:30 AM.
WHAT YOU’D BE DOING IN THIS ROLE
- Perform sample analysis for routine testing, and stability, as required using various wet chemistry techniques.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation such as balances, pH meters, spectrometers (UV-vis, Color Meter), FTIR, density meter, viscosity meter and TOC.
- Conduct sensory evaluation on raw materials, in-process and finished products (e.g. colour, odor, texture).
- Perform daily calibration and verification of Lab equipment.
- Participate in new product development and validation projects as required, under the supervision of a Senior Chemist
- Work collaboratively with production and compounding staff to ensure product is manufactured according to standards.
- Follow Good Laboratory Practices, Good Documentation Practices, and all relevant QC and operation procedures in all laboratory and facility related activities.
- Maintain a high degree of accuracy in testing and data handling.
- Maintain a safe, clean, well-organized, and efficient laboratory and ensure compliance with EHS and applicable safety.
- Actively participate in the development of internal SOPs, test procedures, method/equipment validation protocols, reports, and logbooks.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED TO GET THE JOB DONE
- Knowledge in a range of wet chemistry techniques and basic laboratory instrumentation (e.g. Chemical and physical identifications test, limit tests, conductivity, density, pH, specific gravity, viscosity, etc.)

Ability to interpret results and identify anomalous and out of specification results
- Previous experience with, or good understanding of good laboratory practices and good documentation practices
- Experience with laboratory safety procedures Relevant education in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, OR equivalent work experience is an asset
