The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for establishing and monitoring internal Quality Management Systems and ensuring that cannabis products produced meet the organization's objectives for quality and safety, as well as regulatory and customer requirements. QA Specialist will be working with production and quality teams to ensure conformance to SOPs and quality in production.

Hours of Work: 7:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday at 780 Concession Road 8W, Puslinch ON

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Manager of QA in managing and developing the quality assurance/quality control department.
  • Develop, review, and maintain controlled documents, including SOPs.
  • Oversee implementation of SOPs and develop training programs related to SOP implementation.
  • Ensuring process and procedures are in compliance to GPP standards.
  • Oversee the sanitation of premises, equipment cleanliness, and the hygienic behavior of personnel.
  • Perform internal audits regularly to determine quality assurance compliance.
  • Ensure traceability of cannabis products and assist in conducting annual mock recall.
  • Oversee calibration of equipment and instruments.
  • Ensure cannabis is stored and distributed under conditions that maintain its quality.
  • Complete validations for all cleaning and sanitation activities within production.
  • Participate in audits and inspections, prepare responses to observations, and perform all necessary corrective actions.
  • Monitor changes in regulatory framework for Cannabis Act Regulation as per Public Health Canada.
  • Facilitate testing on each lot or batch of cannabis, ensure that testing is conducted using validated methods, investigate deviations and out-of-spec results.
  • Assist in overseeing and managing all product quality-related issues.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop preventive control programs.
  • Perform analysis of reports and production data to identify trends and recommend updates or changes to quality standards and procedures when necessary.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure compliance throughout the facility.
  • Assist with Corrective Actions Preventive Actions (CAPA) program to ensure appropriate responses to deviations, non-conformances, or audit observations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences/Pharmacy/Food or post-secondary diploma in science related technical discipline.
  • Prior experience in Quality Assurance – pharmaceutical or Cannabis experience is preferred.
  • Experience with an organization regulated by HACCP Canada, or experience in a similarly regulated environment (GMP, GACP, GPP) as required.
  • Knowledge of the Cannabis Act and other cannabis regulations is an asset.
  • Must possess a valid Health Canada security clearance
  • Previously approved by Health Canada in the role of Alternate Quality Assurance Person
  • Ability to adapt to new technology.
  • Dedication to safety measures and best practices.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. High level of integrity and work ethic.
