Reporting to the Director, Engineering Major Projects and Automation, the Project Manager is responsible for setting and enforcing facility and engineering standards across all Sofina Canada sites. This role works with regional engineering teams to define the scope of multi year capital expenditure (capex) programs aimed at upgrading facilities to Sofina standards. This position drives standardized, efficient, and cost effective execution of facility upgrades.
Key Accountabilities:
• Develop, manage and create facility specific engineering standards for Sofina Canada sites. Standards will be combination of building codes and custom specifications related to the Protein industry, focusing on infrastructure;
• Work with the regional engineering teams to develop the scope and multi-year capex programs to upgrade sites to the Sofina Canada standards;
• Work with contractors on construction methods to upgrade facilities while minimizing plant downtime;
• On occasion, manage capital projects, from concept through to commissioning including budget and execution;
• Procurement and management of Engineering Consulting within a local region;
• Manage Construction Permit issues either directly or through engineering consulting firm;
• Preparation and negotiating with vendors and contractors;
• Schedule projects, resources and monitor project timelines;
• Communicates regularly with all Plant Managers on the status of building operations, which includes Production Supervisors and internal management;
• Provide guidance and leadership to maintenance departments on upkeep of site infrastructure;
• Ensures all outsource trades people are knowledgeable as it relates to the company's Health and Safety policy;
• Manage procurement activity, equipment purchases and rentals, and subcontracts as required;
• Identifies further opportunities within the facilities and acts upon them;
• Purchasing and vendor suppliers for various equipment & buildings;
• Continuously adapt to changes in facility regulations and updates Sofina standards.
Requirements:
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills;
• Experience in food manufacturing is preferred;
• Post-Secondary Degree in Engineering, Civil, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is preferred or equivalent experience otherwise;
• A minimum of 6 years of progressive engineering/technical experience in a manufacturing and construction environment;
• Minimum of 3 years experience in managing capital projects;
• PM skills including planning, scheduling, assigning, budgeting;
• Problem solving skills with root cause;
• Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Word, Power Point, Excel required;
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and ability to read and interpret blueprints;
• Good understanding of permit process;
• Good understanding of Building infrastructure construction methods;
• Good understanding of HVAC and plumbing;
• Working knowledge of mechanical rooms, including Boilers, Air compressors and water systems;
• Working knowledge of refrigeration system.
