Job Overview:
Responsible for assisting with the product development & samples creation and providing support in the facilitation of development strategies on behalf of their organization. This position will work to develop an all-round understanding of the entire life cycle of the product development process once an item has been selected from samples to commercialization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct bench work in the test kitchen along channel organized lines, assisting Product Developers in daily tasks of baking prototypes, preparing sample requests and developing channel specified items
- Conduct Sensory Evaluation & Shelf Life studies for their assigned PD & product categories collating & distributing all data
- Assist the Product Developer in assessing need for and or/ ordering new ingredients for samples or plant trials. Opens and closes Purchase Orders
- Assists on plant trials under direct guidance of Product Developer, collecting samples, data and recording processes
- Assist with product development / Project Management activities to ensure timely completion and best practices to optimize product development projects.
- Identify areas of improvements and concerns and recommend improvements by providing guidance in product upgrades to meet changing business demands
- Observe all SQF and HACCP policies
- Maintain consistency and accuracy of information flow between Development and Marketing teams
- Learn computer systems in order to complete TVC’s, Shelf Life Studies, Purchase Orders, plant trial records
- Completion of university degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Culinary Mgmt, Bakery Arts or Pastry Chef
- Minimum 1-year experience in the food industry
- Minimum 1-year experience as a cake decorator, baker, pâtissier, or similar
- Chefs of Bakers Red Seal Certificate or equivalent
- Excellent analytical abilities, e.g. setting priorities, meeting deadlines
- Ability to pipe and perform cake decorating
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and interact with vendors and other stakeholders
- Excellent organizational and time management skill
- Able to multi-task, work effectively with minimal supervision, and meet multiple deadlines
- Creative mindset with an understanding of consumer preferences and trends
- Proficient in computer literacy e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
