About Us


The Faculty of Health Sciences is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit, comprised of six Schools (Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Communication Sciences and Disorders), a large Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and four Research Centres. The Faculty has more than 3,200 undergraduate students and more than 800 graduate students (200 PhD students).

The Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing will educate nurses who are reflective practitioners and provide recognized leadership in nursing theory, research, practice, inter-professional health teaching and learning, and policy advancements.

Responsibilities


In collaboration with the Clinical Placement Unit team and the academic leadership in the School of Nursing, the Placement Coordinator will solicit and secure student placements each term as per course curriculum while maintaining strong and meaningful relationships with our clinical partners. The Placement Coordinator will ensure that students are appropriately matched with a clinical practice placement and that they have completed the necessary pre-placement and agency onboarding requirements. The Placement Coordinator is a part of the Clinical Practice Unit team who ensures that students have a positive placement experience. The Placement Coordinator will ensure that the placement process is operating in the most efficient and smooth manner possible. Maintaining, developing, and improving our usage of the databases is an important task so that all confidential information is up to date and reflects the current clinical placements and associated information.

Placement Coordinators in the School of Nursing are assigned work as it relates to over 800 undergraduate student clinical placements and 80+ graduate student clinical placements per year. Placements occur over a large geographic area within Ontario, and also occur out of province/country from time to time. Placement Coordinators provide cross-coverage for all nursing clinical placement responsibilities.

Qualifications


Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in any discipline; degree in Nursing, Social Science, Health Science, or related field is preferred

Experience:

  • 3 years’ experience in a university or health care setting
  • Administrative experience, including liaising and managing client relationships
  • Experience with clinical education practicum coordination preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of potential placement opportunities across the various health care sectors (e.g. acute care, tertiary care, long term care, community care, primary care)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening skills to confidently interact both within and external to the organization
  • Proven ability and natural inclination to interact with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
  • Ability to manage difficult and challenging situations with equanimity and confidence
  • Ability to work independently and exercise a high degree of initiative, innovation and good judgment in decision-making
  • A strong record of teamwork with the motivation and ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to use good judgement, creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
  • Judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues
  • Conflict resolution and people management skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to ensure confidentiality and privacy is maintained
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and to work effectively and efficiently with internal and external clients at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
  • Intermediate proficiency in computer software packages, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Adobe; proficiency in OWL preferred
  • Well-developed presentation and public speaking skills
