The Physician Assistant (PA) is an regulated health care provider who works under the supervision of a registered physician. The PA supports the physician as the principle medical-decision maker and the supervising physician is responsible for the direction of the PAs' activities. All PA activity will take place within the physician-patient relationship, whether actual or imminent. The goal of PAs is to provide health care to patients having first established a partnership of trust with the supervising physician that is then extended to the patients of the physician's practice. Under the supervision of a physician, PAs meet the needs of the patients by treating immediate illness, guiding patients through recovery, advising them on healthier choices, and educating them on disease prevention.
What duties/responsibilities will the PA perform?
Our PA's operate with-in the scope of practice of our hospitalists looking after General Internal Medicine in-patients using specifically developed medical directives in accordance with the CPSO policy on delegation. Our PA’s work on a hospitalist service providing Internal Medicine care, working closely in a physician/PA clinical dyad that coordinates patient care with our other allied team members. The PAs are predominately responsible for executing care plans that were developed in a consultative fashion. In general our PAs work Monday-Friday 8am-4pm.
