We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team, specializing in therapeutic phlebotomy procedures. The ideal candidate will have experience in venipuncture and a strong understanding of therapeutic blood removal techniques for patients with conditions such as hemochromatosis, polycythemia vera, and other blood disorders requiring regular therapeutic phlebotomy.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform therapeutic phlebotomy procedures according to physician orders and established protocols
- Conduct standard venipuncture for diagnostic blood collection
- Monitor patients during therapeutic procedures and assess for adverse reactions
- Maintain accurate documentation of all procedures, including volume removed and patient response
- Ensure proper labeling, handling, and processing of blood specimens
- Maintain sterile technique and adhere to infection control protocols
- Provide patient education regarding therapeutic phlebotomy procedures
- Collaborate with nursing staff and physicians to coordinate patient care
- Maintain equipment and ensure proper calibration of therapeutic phlebotomy devices
- Follow all OSHA, HIPAA, and facility safety guidelines
Required Qualifications
- Current Phlebotomy Technician certification (CPT, PBT, or equivalent)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of phlebotomy experience preferred
- Current CPR certification
- Knowledge of therapeutic phlebotomy procedures and contraindications
- Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with therapeutic phlebotomy procedures
- Previous work in hematology/oncology or specialized blood disorders clinic
- Additional certifications in medical assisting or related healthcare field
- Bilingual capabilities (specify languages based on patient population)
