Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Payroll & Benefits Administrator is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of employee payroll and benefits administration. This role ensures compliance with related employment laws and company policies, while delivering exceptional support to employees on payroll and benefits-related matters. In addition to payroll and benefits responsibilities, this position liaises the Human Resources (HR) department, assisting with HR documentation, onboarding, offboarding, and record-keeping between the payroll system and HRIS.
This is a permanent part-time position working 20 hours per week. Schedule to be determined between you and your manager.
Duties and responsibilities
Payroll
- Process payroll accurately and on time for all employees through Payworks
- Ensure all payroll-related deductions (taxes, pension, benefits) are correct and compliant with government regulations
- Review monthly invoices from pension and benefit providers to ensure correct deductions are made from employees’ paycheques and perform reconciliation of health benefits and access benefits portals to download invoices
- Calculate employee hours, overtime, and bonuses and ensure timesheets are properly approved by managers
- Maintain accurate employee records in Payworks & BambooHR (wages, benefits, tax information, etc.)
- File and organize payroll documents for compliance and auditing
- Perform other duties as assigned
Benefits Administration
- File and organize benefits documents for compliance and auditing
- Enrol new employees in benefits and pension plans and process updates as needed
- Coordinate with providers on benefits administration and resolve employee inquiries
- Track eligibility, contributions, and changes to employee benefits and pension status
- Support annual open enrolment and benefits renewal processes
- Perform other duties as assigned
Human Resources Support
- Support to the Human Resources team by preparing payroll-related reports, and supporting HR-driven initiatives such as wellness programs
- Ensure compliance with the BC Employment Standards Act and support audits as needed
- Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes, including benefits enrollment and payroll setup in the Payworks system
- Process salary changes in BambooHR and Payworks and provide documentation to employees
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education & Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ related experience in a similar role/function
- A diploma or degree in business administration or similar disciplines is preferred
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Designation is preferred
- A combination of education and experience will be considered
- Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel
- Experience with BambooHR and Payworks
Working Conditions
- Operates out of the head office but this position but may be required to visit other Threshold sites
