Reporting to the Paving Foreperson, the Paver Operator is responsible for the distribution of asphalt by operating the paver machine for the correct width and depth of roadway; Aiding in training of crew members will be a vital part of the job scope; working with supervisor and crew members in a safe professional manner to meet daily goals while maintaining optimal finish quality and ride quality of paved surface. Responsibilities are:
- Safely operate paver to achieve specified paving widths, depth, design grade and ride quality
- Work closely with foreperson and other crew members such as dump man, distributor operator, screed and roller operators to coordinate work and ensure safety
- Perform daily inspections and maintenance to ensure safe paver operation, proper working order including fluid checks, lubrication and documentation
- Keep paver clean and prepare equipment for transport on flatbed when needed
- Grease machine at least twice a day and monitor auto greaser
- Monitor all gauges, warning lights and alarms
- Maintain straight line and consistent paving speeds
- Maintain full hopper level
- Balance material and speed of paver (FT/Minute) to minimize stops
- Follow all safety, compliance, and environmental requirements in alignment with company standards
- Responsible for aiding in staff training of paver operational requirements.
- Ensure that all environmental guidelines and regulations are followed
- Ensure communication of pertinent information to supervisor in a calm professional manner
- Participate with identifying efficiencies and ways to improve production and quality of work by the paving division. Forward all relevant submittals to Supervisor
- Other duties as assigned
What do we value?
