The Dartmouth Yacht Club is a private, members-only boating and social club located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. Situated on the picturesque shores of the Halifax Harbour, the club offers both recreational and competitive sailing, making it a hub for enthusiasts of all levels. Located on site, the club offers a bar and a restaurant, which aims to heighten the member experience.
Position Summary
As a Part-Time Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking food in a safe, clean, and efficient manner while following all recipes and safety guidelines. You will work closely with other staff to make sure that food orders are fulfilled accurately and promptly, maintaining the quality and presentation standards set by the restaurant.
Key Responsibilities
- Food Preparation: Prepare ingredients, sauces, and dishes according to recipes and specifications.
- Cooking: Cook and plate food to order while maintaining a high level of quality and presentation.
- Food Safety: Follow proper food handling, sanitation, and safety guidelines to maintain a clean and safe kitchen.
- Inventory Management: Assist with inventory checks and restocking as needed.
- Team Collaboration: Work as part of a team, communicating effectively with other kitchen staff and front-of-house team members.
- Cleaning: Keep the kitchen and workstations clean and organized throughout your shift.
- Customer Service: Respond to special dietary requests and ensure customer satisfaction with food quality.
- Catering and hors d'oeuvres preparation: Able to assist with the preparation and serving of smaller hors d'oeuvre menus as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience: Previous cooking or kitchen experience is required; on-the-job training available.
- Skills: Basic knowledge of cooking techniques, knife skills, and kitchen equipment.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to follow instructions accurately and consistently.
- Work Ethic: Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work efficiently in a busy environment.
- Team Player: Ability to work well with others and contribute to a positive team atmosphere.
- Physical Stamina: Must be able to stand for long periods and lift heavy items (up to 25 lbs).
Schedule
- Hours: Wednesday 6 pm - 9 pm, Friday 3 pm - 8:30 pm, Saturday 2:30 pm - 7 pm, Sunday 2:30 pm - 7 pm.
- Availability: New regular shifts may occur as the boating season progresses. Opportunities for other one-off shifts for event catering will come with prior notice.

We are looking to fill this position with either 1 or 2 individuals - hours would be split if there are 2 hired. Please indicate in your Cover Letter if your preference is for 8-10 Hours or 15-20 Hours.
