Summary
The Shipping & Receiving Clerk is responsible for coordinating the movement of goods into and out of the facility. This includes preparing and processing shipments, verifying incoming and outgoing products, maintaining accurate records, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and communicating effectively with carriers, suppliers, and internal departments.
Responsibilities
Shipping
- Prepare, package, and label outgoing shipments according to customer and carrier requirements.
- Generate and verify shipping documentation, including bills of lading, packing slips, customs paperwork, and carrier labels.
- Schedule carrier pick-ups and ensure on-time dispatch of goods.
- Inspect outbound loads for accuracy, completeness, and proper packaging.
- Communicate with customers and carriers regarding shipment status, delays, or discrepancies.
Receiving
- Receive and unload deliveries, checking against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
- Inspect incoming goods for damage, quantity accuracy, and quality compliance.
- Record and report discrepancies or damaged goods to Purchasing, Quality, or Management.
- Direct materials to appropriate storage areas or production lines.
Inventory Control
- Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing inventory.
- Assist with cycle counts and year-end inventory audits.
- Ensure materials are stored safely, securely, and in accordance with company policies.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE.
- Comply with Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requirements.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment safely (valid forklift license may be required).
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free shipping/receiving area.
Requirements
- Proven experience in an administrative role, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Knowledge of shipping documentation, carriers, and freight processes.
- Familiarity with customs procedures (for international shipments).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and warehouse management systems (WMS).
