Position Status: One (1) Full-time (40 hours/week) Permanent Position


Reporting to the Métis Family Resource Program Manager, the Métis Family Resource Program Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day activities associated with providing culturally sensitive supports to Métis children and families involved with the child intervention system. The Métis Family Resource Program (MFRP) Supervisor will provide direct supervision to staff within the Métis Family Resource Program and act as a bridge to the program manager and senior leadership of the Children and Family Services department, ensuring the completion of projects on time and in alignment with departmental goals. The MFRP Supervisor must have excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated leadership qualities, and a passion for helping Métis children and families.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the Métis Family Resource Program (MFRP) team in the development, implementation, evaluation, and reporting on programming, events, and supports.
  • Support the development, implementation, and review of policies and procedures to enhance the delivery of services within the MFRP.
  • Provide direct case management for complex files.
  • Create, review, and maintain program processes and procedures that guide MFRP programming to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Review program plans and collateral to ensure effective and high-quality program delivery, including timelines, project milestones, registration and implementation processes, and evaluation plans.
  • Ensure that all MFRP activities reflect the values and priorities of the MFRP team.
  • Identify and address gaps and areas of growth for the MFRP team and programs.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders and partners to foster and maintain positive and collaborative relationships.
  • Support the preparation and delivery of presentations and training to stakeholders, community, provincial, and national audiences, as required.
  • Collaborate on staffing responsibilities and perform supervisory duties including hiring and training staff, assigning job duties, and developing and overseeing staff work plans.
  • Mentor team members and provide effective leadership through feedback, coaching, and formal evaluations.
  • Develop relationships with the Métis community with the intent of supporting children and families and informing future MFRP programming.
  • Participate in and support the overall strategic direction of the Children and Family Services department and Otipemisiwak Métis Government.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government is an asset.
  • Experience with community-based program development and implementation.
  • Recognized strength in leading and engaging teams, creating a culture that promotes development of individual and organizational capacity.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to produce professional documents, reports, and presentations.
  • Experience planning and implementing events and community engagements.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to manage deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to identify issues and implement creative and strategic solutions to overcome problems.
  • Experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and Google Workspace (Google Docs, Google Forms, Google Sheets).
  • Culturally sensitive and compassionate.
  • A proven track record of building collaborative partnerships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including government, industry, service providers, and community.
  • Resourceful, proactive, and results driven.
  • Receptive to constructive feedback, committed to continuous improvement, and aligns personal development with overarching team objectives.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a similar role is an asset.
  • Two (2) years of leadership experience. Experience supervising a team of direct reports is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the Child and Youth Enhancement Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and Protection of Personal Information Act.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Position is based in Edmonton; in-office presence is required.
  • Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
  • Must be willing to travel within Alberta and work irregular hours, on occasion, to meet program needs.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Acceptable attainment and annual maintenance of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check is required.
