The Robertson Library is seeking applicants able to work across functional areas within an academic library context. The successful candidate will work with the Library’s Research Data Management & Knowledge Synthesis unit, including the Medical Librarian and the Clinical Librarian, to support data.upei.ca and evidence synthesis projects. They will also provide public service to students, staff, and faculty of the University and the general public. The applicant will be expected to demonstrate sound judgement, flexibility, and initiative.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide support for the Library’s research data management services and knowledge synthesis projects:
- Triage research data management and other inquiries
- Process data deposits in the library’s data repository
- Create and update records in IslandScholar.ca
- Under librarian direction, update web content
- Assist librarians with evidence synthesis projects, such as downloading and uploading full-text documents or maintaining project documentation
- Assist with the development of instructional materials, such as handouts or videos
- Record statistics and other metrics
- Other duties as required
Provide public service:
- Assist library users in accessing and locating library resources
- Provide information/reference service both in-person and online via the Library’s virtual chat service
- Assists in giving tours and providing support for outreach activities
- Circulate and check-in library resources, laptops, etc.
- Help train and supervise student assistants
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Library Technician Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in a library environment
- Demonstrated ability to work collegially and cooperatively within and across organizations with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Effective technology skills including proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing programs, or an aptitude towards learning new software or technology
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Strong commitment to enhancing service through teamwork and responsiveness to Library users
- Flexible approach, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to effectively respond to issues
- Ability to perform some bending/lifting, and to safely handle/shelve heavy items
ASSETS:
- Bachelor's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution
- Experience working in an academic library
- Knowledge of evidence synthesis processes and tools
- Familiarity with medical resources or search tools
