Description of Position:
Reporting directly to the Senior Mining Engineer this role is responsible for supporting the pit extraction by staking our mine plans, providing topography, producing maps, survey volumes and communicating with operations on a daily basis to ensure they survey functions are met. This position will work closely with the open pit mining contractor. The Surveyor must work well within the department and in conjunction with the other departments to organize resources and ensure the best decisions are made for the site as a whole

Key Job Functions:
- Provide up to date surveys in pit, roads, dumps and stockpiles
- Survey dilled hole in a timely and safe manner
- Perform wall scans and drone surveys using multi-station and both fixed wing and quad copter drones
- Marking out lines on uneven blast rock for ore control
- Marking out design lines/limits for pit and dump construction
- Provide grade checks for loading units and dozers
- Adhere to and improve procedures and practices for survey data collection
- Ensure survey data is compiled into correct formats and stored in proper data bases and filing systems
- Adjust daily prioritize as required for the operations efficiencies
- Work with mine engineering and geology team to implement any changes from the mine plan
- Coordinate with the operations team to ensure mine control systems are working effectively
- Produce mine maps as the mine expands and infrastructure changes.
Assist in calculating survey volumes on weekly/monthly basis for the pit and Stockpiles.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work in a remote small town environment.
- Ability to work in conditions exposed to the elements (snow, rain, sub-freezing weather, heat, and wind).
Required Education/Professional Qualifications:
- Technical degree, college technical certificate or related experience from a recognized post secondary institution.
- A minimum of 2 years of surveying experience in a mining environment (exploration and/or production).
- Technical knowledge of various surveying methods (LiDAR, scanners, Total Stations, GPS), tools and software, including processing survey data and developing survey reports
- Valid Class Driver’s License
- Proficiency in MS suite, specifically Excel is desired
