At First Light, the Medical Transportation service operates as a vital social enterprise, offering safe, dependable, and client-centered transportation support. By helping to reduce barriers to healthcare access, this initiative plays a crucial role in supporting Indigenous clients who travel to St. John’s for medical appointments.
Closely integrated with First Light’s Patient Navigator service, it ensures a seamless and supportive experience throughout each client’s medical journey. Together, these efforts reflect First Light’s deep commitment to holistic care, cultural safety, and the overall well-being of the community.

What You’ll Do
- Provide warm, respectful, and high-quality service to all passengers.
- Operate First Light vehicles safely, efficiently, and in compliance with traffic regulations.
- Inspect and maintain vehicle cleanliness and report any maintenance needs.
- Assist clients with entering/exiting vehicles and with luggage, wheelchairs, etc.
- Communicate clearly about routes, schedules, stops, and client requests.
- Dispatch rides, confirm pickups, and coordinate with the Navigator team.
- Ensure a smooth and welcoming experience from arrival to departure.
- Promptly report any delays, incidents, or vehicle issues.
Skills, Experience, and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class 4 Driver’s License (can be completed during orientation)
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable working shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Prior experience in transportation or customer service is an asset
- Clean criminal record and vulnerable sector check required
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.27 per hour
