Job Type: Full-Time Preferred / Part Time Considered (hours ranging from 24-35 hours per week)
Salary: $18-$21 per hour depending on experience and qualifications

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate and detail-oriented Front Desk Optometric Assistant to join our dynamic team and friendly optometry clinic! We serve a diverse community and value professionalism, kindness, organization and strong communication skills.

Elmvale Optometry is a modern, independent optometry clinic in the heart of the Elmvale Shopping Centre in Ottawa, As a full scope optometric clinic we have been providing eye care excellence to families in Ottawa South and East since January 2012, through comprehensive eye examinations, contact lens fittings, emergency eye care, and kids’ eye health care.
We have invested largely in modern state-of–the-art technology and equipment for identifying and diagnosing eye conditions, so that our optometrists can provide you with the highest standard in eye care. Our office also has a large selection of prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses.
We offer a wide range of services including:
- Comprehensive vision and eye care
- Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy screening, management and follow up
- Cataract assessment and post-operative follow up
- Laser eye surgery and contact lens consultations
- Red eye management, visual field testing and foreign body removal
- Slit lamp digital anterior segment imaging and retinal imaging
- Dispensing eyeglasses including glasses for kids up to seniors
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist patients with professionalism and warmth
- Assist patients with check-in/check-out procedures, paperwork and insurance verification
- Coordinate patient flow by preparing the patients for the Optometrist in a timely manner
- Manage front desk operations, including scheduling, confirming appointments, rescheduling and phone/email/fax communication
- Conduct patient pretesting duties using advanced diagnostic tools
- Submit insurance claims and manage billing procedures
- Supporting frame selection, fitting and dispensing glasses
- Aid with contact lens training, options and dry eye management tools
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic patient health records in EMR system
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the clinic environment
- Organize and maintain the optical inventory (frames, lenses and contact lenses)
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in an optometric, ophthalmic or healthcare setting
- Bilingual or multilingual is considered a strong asset (e.g. English, French, Arabic etc.)
- Proficient in computer systems, EMR platforms and patient management software
- Can maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
- Organized, eager to learn and great at multitasking
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Team player who is reliable, punctual and shows strong initiative
- Comfortable adhering to clinic policies and procedures
- Experience delivering exceptional customer service at all times
