Position: Community Animator
Salary/Hours: $17.20/hr for 35 hrs/week for 8 weeks - with the ability to work evenings and weekends
Location: Hybrid - In-person will be in the Willowdale community
Reporting to: Marketing and Events Manager
NeighbourLink North York is looking for a dynamic and outgoing Community Animator who is passionate about building meaningful connections and bringing people together through well-organized, creative events. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, loves working with people, and has a talent for juggling logistics and details behind the scenes.
The Community Animator will play a key role in helping to shape and deliver some of our biggest annual events, including the We Love Willowdale Christmas Market and Walking Parade, as well as our Fall Fundraiser. This role also includes leading NeighbourLink’s presence at various summer outreach and community gatherings.
In addition to event planning, the Community Animator will work to ensure our event information reaches neighbours, volunteers, small businesses, churches, and partner organizations. This will be completed through our newsletters, by designing promotional materials, updating our website, and working on a social media strategy.
Details: The Community Animator will be primarily responsible for:
Events and Administration (60%)
- Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, action and follow-up items.
- Emailing businesses for partnership and sponsorship opportunities.
- Ensure Marketing and Communications folders and contacts are up-to-date.
- Working closely with vendors for the Christmas Market, a large-scale event and community festival
- Host NeighbourLink tables at various summer events
- Coordinating our Fall fundraiser alongside the Marketing and Events Manager.
Marketing and Communications (40%)
- Developing marketing materials for NeighbourLink’s programs and events, ensuring branding uniformity in content/messaging.
- Writing and editing email newsletters using Mailchimp, following timelines.
- Designing and editing graphics for print or web as needed.
- Create events online and send out all necessary communications to participants.
- Developing new, relevant and meaningful content on Canva to post on our social media platforms through Hootsuite. This includes writing copy, taking photos, and creating graphics.
Qualifications:
- Currently in or graduate of an Events College or University Program
- Experience assisting, planning and implementing small and large-scale events
- Experience in community engagement and outreach
- Experience working with volunteers and community partners.
- Excellent attention to detail; strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Google Suite is required (spreadsheets, docs, etc.).
- Proficiency in Canva would be considered an asset.
- Able to multitask and demonstrate flexibility in taking on new tasks as they arise.
- As an ambassador for NeighbourLink, the candidate should enjoy speaking enthusiastically with neighbours and strangers
