About the Job:
Reporting to Executive Director of People & Culture or their designate, The Manager, Employee and Union Relations plays a pivotal role in fostering a collaborative, equitable, and inclusive workplace by leading employee relations initiatives, supporting management, and engaging with union partners. This position develops and implements strategies to enhance labor relations, drive organizational success, and uphold diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles. As a key liaison for union relations, the manager oversees negotiations, grievance discussions, and labor management processes to ensure fair and effective resolutions. Additionally, they provide strategic guidance to leadership, developing resources and training that empower managers to navigate performance and labor challenges with confidence. By leveraging data-driven insights, monitoring workforce trends, and leading special projects, the manager continuously evolves HR practices to create a workplace culture where all employees feel valued, respected, and supported.

You need to have experience working in a complex unionized environment and engaging in the associated processes (grievances, collective bargaining, etc.), strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations (British Columbia jurisdiction is an asset), Embed DEI principles into policies and practices to foster inclusivity, equitable opportunities, and a diverse workplace culture, ability to interpret and apply collective agreement language, strong analytical and critical reasoning skills for identifying and solving labor relations matters, ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information, effective interpersonal, de-escalation, and conflict resolution skills, with experience in trauma-informed practices, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences and build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, proficiency in HRIS and Microsoft Office suite.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 5-7 years of experience as a labor relations specialist in public or private sector.
• Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) certification is an asset.
• Experience working in the not-for-profit sector.
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience 
• All positions are subject to a criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check
