Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are looking for a Manager, Charging Stations to join our team!
What You will Do
Reporting to the Head of Renewable Energy Programs, you will be responsible for the management and administration of the TTC charging systems. The charging systems will include all electrical and software systems required to design and manage power generation, supply, control, and optimization of smart fleet charging and dispatch, to enable the adoption of all-electric transit buses, wheel-trans, and non-revenue support vehicles, as well as renewable generation and energy storage as part of TTC’s net-zero mandate. Primarily, you will be responsible for overseeing the integration, operation, and maintenance of charging systems.
Other responsibilities of your role will include:
- Leading the development of a Risk Management strategy including risk identification, risk analysis, mitigation planning, tracking and reporting for cost, schedule, performance, safety, etc.
- Managing contractors and vendors for the operation and maintenance of the charging system.
- Providing operations and maintenance expertise in the preparation, review, and approval of detailed designs and writing specifications.
- Managing the delivery of cost/schedule oversight programs for charging systems
- Tracking and ensuring charging system availability and maintainability to support eBuses required for service
- Overseeing and coordinating the integration projects into TTC operating departments
- Monitoring the configuration management process and ensuring completeness of systems configuration records
- Managing the review and implementation of any design changes or software upgrades during the life of the asset
- Providing technical support for the safe and prompt restoration of charging systems in conjunction with other TTC personnel and outside agencies, including the system provider.
- Managing the budget as it relates to O&M work and developing business cases for REP programs.
- Managing staff, including recruiting & selecting, allocating work assignments, coaching and training, monitoring performance, etc.
- Providing expert opinion/or advice during legal proceedings and/or governmental investigations, as required.
- Representing the department/section at meetings and conducting various presentations and workshops to senior staff and frontline personnel.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?
- Your educational background will consist of the completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Electrical and/or Software Engineering, Operations Management) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- Your application will reveal your extensive practical knowledge and directly related experience in a supervisory/management capacity.
- Your registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario or your certification as a Project Management Professional is considered an asset.
- Your possession of a Master Electrician or a similar license is also considered an asset.
- Additionally, your experience with electrical transit vehicle charging infrastructure, vehicle charging management systems, and related infrastructure is preferred.
- You will have working knowledge of industrial electrical equipment management, corrective and preventative maintenance activities.
- You will also have comprehensive knowledge of procedures and techniques applicable to the maintenance, repair, and construction of vehicle chargers, electrical load controls, electrical substations, underground feeder networks, and wiring/service systems and equipment.
- Additionally, you will have sound knowledge of electrical, electronic, and software principles, methods and practices.
- Your resume will reveal your familiarity with renewable generation, electrical distribution systems, Ontario’s energy market, and regulatory environments.
- You will have sound knowledge of applicable electrical codes, electrical industry maintenance standards/practices, and relevant government legislation/regulations (e.g. Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA), Human Rights Code, environmental regulations, etc.).
- Your knowledge of computerized applications (such as Microsoft Word, Excel, database maintenance, etc.) will be beneficial to you in this role.
- In addition, you will have knowledge of business administration, budgetary and financial principles, fiscal and human resources policies and legislation/regulations regarding safety, human rights, employment, etc.
- You will have the ability to take independent action when coping with problems, changing situations and emergencies.
- You will also have the ability to work under pressure when you are required to meet corporate objectives and mandates in a timely manner.
- Your sound judgement, highly developed management, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills will be invaluable in this position.
- You will possess the ability to manage and work with professional multi-discipline teams, deal with complex issues, and maintain effective working relationships.
- You will be able to effectively lead, coach and motivate the staff to ensure sectional objectives are met with due regard for quality, quantity, effectiveness and deadlines.
- Your ability to set targets, delegate tasks and follow up, will ensure objectives are achieved.
- Furthermore, you will have the ability to prepare and interpret complex reports, recognize problems and evaluate solutions.
- As a Manager, Charging Stations, you will be required to travel to various project sites within the City of Toronto in a timely manner.
