JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Facility and Maintenance Manager and Coordinator, the Maintenance supports the upkeep of the exterior grounds of Golden Age Manor during the summer months. This is a physically active role focused on outdoor maintenance tasks, including lawn care, gardening, and general exterior upkeep to ensure a clean, safe, and pleasant environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintenance & Repair Responsibilities
- Use the organization’s tracking system for accurate record-keeping, accountability, and streamlined facility operations.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs such as:
- Regular lawn care including mowing, trimming, and watering.
- Weed flowerbeds and maintain landscaped areas.
- Assist with planting and maintaining flowers and shrubs.
- Rake leaves and remove debris from walkways and outdoor areas.
- Maintain outdoor seating and recreational spaces in clean and safe condition.
- Support minor repairs or touch-ups of exterior features such as fences, walkways, and benches.
- Dispose of yard waste and recyclables properly, following environmental guidelines.
- Assist with occasional indoor maintenance or event setup as required.
- Complete ad hoc projects as facilitated by the Facility and Maintenance Manager and Coordinator.
- Proactively inform relevant parties of service disruptions to minimize impact.
- Maintain tools and equipment in clean, safe, working order.
- Communicate equipment stocking needs to managers for ordering.
- Notify the Facility and Maintenance Coordinator and the Facility Maintenance Manager about recurring issues that need more attention or a larger repair.
- Assist with general labour (i.e. event setup, moving of supplies, etc.) when required.
- Assist in maintaining an inventory of maintenance supplies and materials.
- Monitor the stock of essential maintenance items (e.g., cleaning supplies, tools, parts) and report low inventory to the supervisor.
- Dispose of waste materials properly, following safety and environmental guidelines.
- Assist the Facility and Maintenance Coordinator and the Facility Maintenance Manager with facility operations and initiatives as needed.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety protocols while performing maintenance tasks to avoid accidents and injuries.
- Ensure compliance with building codes, health and safety regulations, and company standards.
- Report any unsafe conditions or hazards to the supervisor or facility management.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS/QUALIFICATIONS
Education Requirements
- High school diploma;
- Students in a facility maintenance or related program preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
- No prior maintenance experience required, but any previous groundskeeping or landscaping work is an asset.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- The role requires the ability to operate tools and maintenance equipment safely.
OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS
This position involves various physical and environmental risks. Frequent lifting of boxes, supplies, and equipment (up to 50 lbs or more), as well as pushing carts, bending, and stooping, may lead to strains, sprains, and musculoskeletal injuries. Walking throughout the facility, particularly on wet floors, uneven surfaces, or in tight spaces, presents a risk of slips, trips, and falls, which could result in contusions, fractures, and other injuries. Additionally, using tools and equipment like power tools and ladders poses risks of cuts, abrasions, and potential electrical shock. Exposure to cleaning agents, maintenance chemicals, and dust particles may also cause skin irritation, respiratory issues, or allergic reactions if safety guidelines aren’t strictly followed.
Working in close proximity to residents increases the risk of exposure to infectious agents, requiring adherence to health and safety protocols to minimize infection risk. This role also requires periods of repetitive tasks, including computer work, which may lead to back, wrist, and eye strain.
