LITTLE RED RIVER CREE NATION (LRRCN) HEALTH SERVICES
MENTAL WELLNESS PROGRAM SUPERVISOR
This position is key to effective individual, family and community Mental Wellness. As a practicing professional, ideally registered with a professional regulatory body, and with strong administrative skills, the Mental Wellness (MW) Program Supervisor is critical for the delivery of effective Mental Wellness Services in the LRRCN communities of John D’Or Prairie, Fox Lake and Garden River.
The incumbent will lead, oversee and manage the implementation of LRRCN's Mental Wellness and Crisis Response Program. They will guide the development of LRRCN's multi-disciplinary team comprised of community members, including Elders, youth workers, NNADAP staff, volunteers and clinicians. They will also promote the building of seamless partnerships between MW Team staff and contracted clinical service providers, enhancing and supporting clinical work as an essential part of effective service provision.
The MW Program Supervisor will ensure the MW Team provides culturally-safe mental wellness services, informed by community Elders and driven by the community in accordance with the principles of the First Nations Wellness Continuum Framework. They will promote awareness of the mental health needs of the Nation, be familiar with available services and can identify gaps. The MW Program Supervisor leads the team to utilize and enhance community strengths and resources to close those gaps.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Mental Wellness Program Development and Delivery
1. Establishing Community Mental Wellness Program and Team comprised of community and cultural resources and clinicians. Ensuring there is a full complement of qualified, caring and compassionate personnel including clinical consultation as/when needed.
2. Assessing and responding to training needs as related to LRRCN's community/regional context/complex mental health needs.
3. Leading MWT to provide a continuum of care, focusing on prevention, intervention and after-care.
4. Addressing community crisis prevention, through early intervention.
5. Addressing the needs of high-risk individuals with complex mental health issues by providing coordinated, multi-disciplinary mental health supports and interventions targeted to areas of acute community need.
6. Monitoring pre-crisis reporting to actively provide early warning “crisis” signals to Health Director, collaborating departments/agencies and elected leaders to better prepare or reduce the level of impending crisis.
7. Actively seeking involvement/engagement of appropriate Mental Wellness clinician(s) for psychological assessments, therapy as/if required and crisis support/debriefing.
8. Facilitating MW Team members' ability to respond to urgent need for community based crisis response services in other communities and be ready to assist.
9. Developing Terms of Reference with partners, creating new linkages/renewing existing partnerships. Clarifying roles/procedures/coordination protocols to improve communication and effect quick community responses.
Administration, Finance and Reporting
10. Developing and implementing work plans and budgets.
11. Supervising staff which may include Assistant Coordinator, Administrative Support and other program leads by following LRRCN HR policy.
12. Arranging and facilitating regular MW Program meetings, including the development of agenda.
13. Providing presentations and updates to LRRCN leadership, departments, agencies, funders and other stakeholders as required.
14. Ensuring appropriate program guidelines are developed and followed such as Terms
of Reference and crisis response protocols.
15. Managing project budget according to funding agreements and grants.
16. Ensuring data is collected and stored appropriately.
17. Ensuring the program is meeting the terms and conditions of agreements, such as reporting.
18. Provides reports, on time, based on goals and objectives described in the workplan as well as required funding reports.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Post-secondary education in psychology, health, mental health, social work, human services, administration or related subjects and/or equivalent experience.
- Understanding of the complexities and nature of community members mental health needs.
- Culturally supportive and supported.
- Ability to facilitate development/implementation of needs assessment, Terms of
Reference and establish protocols, policy and procedures.
- Ability to lead, organize and develop a performance based, evidence informed MWT
with outcome measures such as:
- MWT is able to monitor pre-crises in each LRRCN community
- MWT is able to respond quickly to crisis and deliver service
- MWT is able to address the needs of individuals with complex mental health issues
- Increased community access to services
- Improved coordination of mental health supports and interventions to address acute needs
- Community is aware of mental health services and culturally appropriate crisis line
- Increased number of referrals and quicker response
Tracking
o Number of MWT meetings/ presentations
o Number of interviews/assessments/ case management plans
o Number of incidents attended
o Number of communities assisted by MWT per FNIHB reporting
o List and location of promotional/ awareness materials
- Ability to read budgets and financial statements.
- Class 5 driver's license.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and emails.
- Excellent communication skills in both verbal Cree and English and written English.
- Proactive, energetic and highly engaged with team members, clients and the community.
- Abide by LRRCN Health Services' Privacy and Confidentiality and Personnel Policies.
The salary for this position is negotiable. Health Services will provide the
successful candidate with furnished, subsidized housing, a vehicle and an
attractive pension and benefit package.
