Scotia Recycling Limited (SRL), a member of the Scotia Investments Limited (SIL) family of companies, is an operator of Atlantic Canada’s leading recycling facilities located in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. With an approximate workforce of 200 dedicated employees, we specialize in the collection, processing, sales, and brokerage of recyclable materials, and are a proven industry leader that have been in operation since 1976. We are currently seeking an experienced Logistics and Purchasing Coordinator to join our growing team. Reporting to the General Manager, Maritimes Operators, the Logistics and Purchasing Coordinator will be working in our Dartmouth facility.
About the Role
In this role, you will assist with procurement, inventory management, and logistics coordination to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of goods and materials. Key Responsibilities:
Purchasing and Logistics:
- Assist in sourcing and purchasing materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Coordinate with suppliers to track orders, confirm delivery schedules, and resolve issues.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and inventory levels
- Support logistics operations including shipping, receiving, and transportation scheduling.
- Prepare purchase orders and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Monitor vendor performance and maintain strong supplier relationships.
- Help manage customs documentation and import/export compliance (if applicable).
- Collaborate with internal departments to forecast demand and manage stock levels.
- Internal tracking and reconciliation of plant production, product movement (inbound and outbound shipments) using the company ERP system (added bonus if familiar with Sage 300 or NetSuites).
Scale House:
- Operate and monitor weighbridge systems to accurately record vehicle weights.
- Verify and document incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Maintain accurate records and generate daily, weekly, and monthly weight reports.
- Answer and direct incoming scale house phone calls professionally, providing accurate information to drivers, vendors, and internal departments.
This position is an evolving one, so there will be additional duties associated with this opening and plenty of special projects. Training will be provided on in-house systems.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in supply chain, business, or related field preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience in logistics, purchasing, or supply chain support.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); experience with ERP systems is a plus.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with inventory management software.
- Knowledge of international shipping and customs regulations is an asset.
- Certification in supply chain or logistics (e.g., APICS, CIPS) is an asset.
