Job Description
The office of MP David Myles, Member of Parliament for Fredericton- Oromocto is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time position of Legislative Assistant in Ottawa. Taking direction from the Member of Parliament and taking direction from the Chief of Staff / Director of Parliamentary Affairs the Legislative Assistant will:
- Assist MP with all related duties pertaining to committees and Parliamentary Secretary role.
- Manage MP’s Ottawa schedules, such as committees, appointments and all related stakeholders meeting relating to the Parliamentary Secretary portfolio; coordinate all logistic details such as provide the names of the guests to the Parliamentary Precinct Services PPS, greed stakeholders, set up the meeting space, print material for meetings, order catering etc.
- Coordinate House Duties schedule and trades and act as a liaison with the whip’s office.
- Attend Committee meetings with MP and all other related meetings.
- In conjunction with the Director of Parliamentary Affairs; prepare materials for QP, speaking notes, and recommendations for use in the House and Committees.
- Conduct daily media scans and forward MP articles relating to committee work and miscellaneous issues of interest of the MP.
- Research, maintain files, and brief the Member of critical areas and riding-related matters, priorities, and issues.
- Provide the Library of parliament or LRB with requested communications materials when needed.
- Attend weekly meetings held by LRB’s Atlantic Desk.
- In conjunction with other staff assist with the coordinating of outreach opportunities in the riding as well as in Ottawa.
- Assist with the preparation and processing of communication documents such as HH and constituency mailing and others.
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
- Other duties as required affiliated with day-to-day operations and special projects.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications
Education:
- University degree/College certificate in communications, public relations, political science, government relations or a related field, or equivalency.
Experience:
- Proven communication skills (verbal and emphasis on written).
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop), Microsoft Office, Outlook, and managing content on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while working independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Bilingualism in both French and English;
Assets:
- Strong organizational skills, the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of the riding and its priorities.
- Sound political judgement, tact, and diplomacy.
- Experience in a political environment.
- Ability to create and execute a plan and meet strict deadlines.
