Salary will be commensurate with education and experience:
LE01 - $ 101,114 to $137,320 per annum
LE02 - $ 125,030 to $169,748 per annum
LE03 - $ 135,539 to $184,021 per annum

As a Legislative Counsel member of the Legislative Counsel Office you will have the opportunity to be part of a quickly evolving legal landscape while at the same time enjoying an unsurpassed natural environment and a culturally and socially vibrant capital city.
A Legislative Counsel must have the highest proficiency in writing in the English language, be able to communicate effectively with instructing officers and colleagues and to analyze, troubleshoot and transform policy and instructions into legally effective draft legislation. Briefing or legal education delivery experience, and an understanding of legislative practice, are essential. The incumbent must have the ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
As a member of the Legislative Counsel Office, you will also participate in reviewing and providing feedback on colleagues’ drafts, supporting the wider statutory functions of the office, in developing and helping to improve training materials, drafting manuals, procedures and in other special projects concerning LCO’s services.
These positions will be members of the Legislative Counsel Office.

Essential Qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications. Please note selection for further consideration will be based on the information you provide in your resume.
- Relevant experience in the practice of law – including significant experience drafting legislation, developing or analyzing legal policy, or drafting legal documents
- Current member of the Law Society of Yukon or current eligibility for membership in the Law Society of Yukon
- Experience analyzing proposed policy, legislation and related legal issues and proposing solutions
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability
We are looking for a skilled legislative counsel to provide legislative drafting services and related advice to the Government of Yukon in accordance with LCO standards and with LCO/LSB/DOJ/GY processes.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, teamwork and written and oral communication skills are required for this position, as well as the ability to provide solution-focussed feedback to colleagues and instructing officers. The incumbent should have excellent English writing skills and the ability to discuss French drafter’s concerns. A reasonable level of French language ability would be an asset.
Counsel having legislative drafting experience or closely related experience will be preferred, including the following:
- Experience with or understanding of legislative processes and practice
- Experience giving and responding to feedback about your own and colleagues’ legal legislative analysis and drafting, including from editors and non-lawyers
- Briefing and/or legal education delivery experience

Condition of Employment:
• Current member in good standing of the Law Society of Yukon or be currently eligible for admission in the Law Society of Yukon
• Occasional Travel in and out-of-territory is required
- Evenings and weekend work is sometimes required
