Position Overview:
As a Lead Educator at WonderWise, you will take on a pivotal role in the classroom, working closely with children to support their development and create a positive, enriching environment. You will design and implement educational activities that align with our curriculum, ensuring that each child’s needs are met and that the space is safe, stimulating, and conducive to learning. You will also collaborate with a team of educators to maintain high standards of care and foster an atmosphere of respect, creativity, and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Child-Centered Care and Education:
○ Plan and lead developmentally appropriate classroom activities in accordance to the WonderWise curriculum that support all areas of children's growth.
○ Observe and assess children’s development, documenting progress and providing feedback to parents and the Centre Director.
○ Foster a safe, nurturing environment that encourages curiosity, exploration, and independent thinking.
○ Ensure that each child’s individual needs and interests are met, and provide tailored support for children with diverse learning needs.
- Classroom Management and Environment:
○ Create and maintain a welcoming, organized, and stimulating classroom environment that is conducive to learning and exploration.
○ Supervise children at all times, ensuring their safety and well-being.
○ Model and support positive behaviors, promoting respect, cooperation, and conflict resolution among children.
○ Ensure that the child to staff ratio is maintained at all times.
- Collaboration and Teamwork:
○ Work closely with other educators to collaborate on lesson planning, program development, and classroom management strategies.
○ Assist in mentoring and guiding assistant educators and support staff, providing feedback and professional development as needed.
○ Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
○ Ensure smooth communication between staff and families, providing regular updates on children’s progress.
- Health and Safety:
○ Monitor and follow all health and safety regulations to ensure a clean and safe environment for children and staff.
○ Respond appropriately to medical emergencies, accidents, or incidents, ensuring that proper protocols are followed.
○ Ensure that all children are supervised at all times and that safety protocols are adhered to during indoor and outdoor activities.
- Administrative Support:
○ Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of children’s progress, attendance, and incidents.
○ Support the Centre Director in ensuring regulatory compliance, including preparing for licensing inspections and health and safety inspections.
○ Assist with the planning and implementation of parent communication initiatives, such as parent-teacher conferences, newsletters, and special events.
- Family and Community Engagement:
○ Build and maintain positive relationships with parents, caregivers, and families, addressing any concerns or questions in a professional and empathetic manner.
○ Provide regular feedback to families regarding their child’s development and involvement in the program.
○ Participate in family engagement events and encourage community involvement in the centre’s activities.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification:
● Level 2 or Level 3 ECE Certification as recognized by Alberta’s Child Care Licensing.
● First Aid and CPR Certification (must be valid and up-to-date).
● Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (must be clear and current - within the last 6 months).
● Food safe certification is an asset.
Experience:
● Minimum 2 years of experience working in a licensed early childhood education setting.
● Proven experience working with children in preschool or daycare settings, with a solid understanding of child development.
● Experience with curriculum planning and implementing early learning programs.
● Knowledge of Alberta’s Child Care Licensing Regulations and best practices in early childhood education.
Skills and Competencies:
● Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
● Organizational skills to manage a classroom, plan lessons, and maintain accurate records.
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative, flexibility, and problem-solving skills.
● Knowledge of inclusive practices and the ability to support children with diverse needs.
● A passion for early childhood education and a genuine commitment to nurturing and supporting young children’s development.
● Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently, as clear communication with staff, children, and families is essential to the role.
Working Conditions:
● Full-time salaried position
● Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, and lifting children or equipment as needed.
● Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including active play and outdoor excursions.
