About the Role:
We are seeking a senior lawyer with at least 7 years of experience in estate planning and estate administration. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is confident managing their own files, enjoys collaborative work, and is looking to join a team that values both excellence and work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic estate planning advice to a wide range of clients, including blended families, business owners, and individuals with complex asset structures
- Draft and review wills, powers of attorney, multiple wills, and various types of trusts
- Manage all aspects of estate administration including probate applications, executor advice, asset distribution, and estate accounting
- Liaise with accountants, financial advisors, and beneficiaries as part of a holistic client service approach
- Mentor and support junior clerks and assistants as needed
- Stay current with developments in estates law, tax, and capacity-related legislation
- Contribute to firm marketing efforts including speaking engagements, articles, and community outreach
Qualifications:
- J.D. or LL.B. and member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in estate planning and administration
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
- Strong drafting, organizational, and client management skills
- Comfortable with technology and practice management tools
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Assets (not required):
- TEP designation or progress toward STEP accreditation
- Experience with Henson Trusts, alter ego/joint partner trusts, or cross-border planning
- Familiarity with capacity law and substitute decision-making
