This role is perfect for someone who’s already worked on professional crews, knows how to hustle, and wants to take on more leadership and responsibility — without being thrown into the deep end too soon. You’ll work directly with experienced foremen and our operations team, learning how to run high-end jobs the V.I.L. way.
Position Summary:
V.I.L. Landscaping is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Residential Softscape / Maintenance Lead Hand to suppoer our foreman in providing exceptional lawn care services to our discerning clientele in the high-end residential market. This role demands a strong commitment to quality, a passion for creating beautiful landscapes, and the ability to lead and inspire a team. This includes mowing, pruning, planting, irrigation, pest control, and seasonal clean-ups.
Responsibilities:
- Crew Leadership & Supervision: Lead, supervise, and mentor a crew of landscape maintenance workers, ensuring efficient task completion, adherence to quality standards, and a positive work environment. Plan and schedule daily tasks, optimizing routes and ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Lawn & Landscape Maintenance: Perform and oversee all aspects of lawn maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, mulching, fertilization, weed control, pest management, aeration, dethatching, and other related services. Monitor and maintain irrigation systems; ensure proper watering schedules. Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides as needed, following safety protocols.
- Horticultural Expertise: Demonstrate a strong understanding of plant health, proper pruning techniques, and the identification of common lawn and garden diseases and pests. Conduct site inspections to ensure work is being completed to the company’s high-quality standards.
- Client Communication & Service: Interact professionally with clients, addressing their concerns, answering questions, and ensuring their satisfaction with services provided. Communicate with clients to ensure their expectations are met or exceeded.
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Ensure that all lawn care equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, etc.) is properly maintained, cleaned, and in safe operating condition. Troubleshoot and resolve any issues or challenges that arise on-site with equipment.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce all safety protocols and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for the team and compliance with industry regulations. Report any accidents, damage, or safety concerns to the Operations Manager immediately.
- Material Management & Record Keeping: Monitor and manage inventory of lawn care supplies, ensuring adequate stock and minimizing waste. Keep accurate records of work performed, materials used, and crew hours.
- Problem Solving & Decision Making: Proactively identify and address potential issues related to lawn care, equipment, or client concerns. Troubleshoot and resolve any issues or challenges that arise on-site.
- Training & Development: Train crew members on safe and efficient work practices.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in residential landscape maintenance, with a focus on high-end properties.
- Proven leadership experience; ability to manage and motivate a crew.
- Knowledge of plants, irrigation systems, and landscape maintenance techniques.
- Experience with landscape equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, etc.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to problem-solve and make decisions on the job site.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in horticulture or landscape maintenance.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- First-aid and CPR certification.
Working Conditions:
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Physical labor, including lifting, digging, and operating machinery.
