The Ministry of Trade and Export Development is seeking a highly motivated, dedicated, and accomplished professional for a 14-month term position as Investment Attraction Officer, in the Investment Relations Branch in Regina or Saskatoon.
The Investment Attraction Officer will be a dynamic, high-performing and strong relationship-builder who brings strong business and/or economic development experience to support Saskatchewan’s Growth Plan through our Ministry’s Investment Attraction Strategy. The Officer will need to navigate challenges, embrace a fast-paced work environment, and work with a team of domestic and international professionals.
The Investment Attraction Officer will be responsible for:
- Conduct research and develop materials to support domestic and international lead generation and investor prospecting efforts, with the goal of growing trade and investment in Saskatchewan.
- Collaborate with companies and across government to support the growth of Saskatchewan businesses by delivering high-quality, responsive, and coordinated services to current and prospective buyers and investors.
- Provide stakeholders, information about government programs, incentives, labour markets, infrastructure, and assist in coordinating a government response to potential investors;
- Engage with local associations, academic institutions, and strategic partners to build relationships and promote Saskatchewan’s value proposition, helping to advance a strong and sustainable economy.
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- Knowledge of investment attraction principles and practices, and an understanding of global trade issues and trends with respect to foreign direct investment (FDI).
- A thorough understanding of the Saskatchewan economy and the fiscal, regulatory and policy issues affecting business in the province.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Saskatchewan’s key sectors, emerging opportunities, and competitive advantage.
- The ability to think critically and view issues and challenges from multiple perspectives, in order to reach mutually acceptable solutions.
- Highly developed research and analytical capabilities with the ability to identify opportunities and impediments to investment.
- Ability to coordinate complex files and projects that involve working co-operatively with a broad range of stakeholders to deliver timely, data-driven, and high-quality advice.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills to build relationships with and influence investors, stakeholders, and collaborate across diverse teams.
Typically, the knowledge and competencies for these positions would have been acquired through a university degree in Business Administration, Commerce, or Economics, and a minimum of 5 years of experience in economic development and/or investment.
Knowledge of government decision-making processes is an asset.
The position will require travel within Saskatchewan, Canada, and potentially internationally.
