Intensive Support and Supervision Program (ISSP) & Youth Support Worker
Part-time - 28 Hours/Week
Some evening and weekend availability may be required.
Job Summary:
The ISSP & Youth Support Worker provides intensive one-to-one supervision and support to youth on probation who are deemed medium to high risk of re-offending, as well as broader youth support services for at-risk youth facing challenges such as family conflict, trauma, substance use, and community disconnection. This hybrid role helps youth build life skills, access community resources, stay connected to positive supports, and reduce involvement with the justice system.
Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in human / social services field OR Diploma in Child and Youth Care or in a related Human/Social Services field.
- Minimum of one (1) year recent experience working with at-risk youth.
- Valid First Aid Level C is required.
- Competency with Microsoft Office.
- Recent Naloxone training.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Clearance.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance. Driver’s abstract is required.
Job Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to provide intensive support and supervision to youth on probation, court ordered, released from custody early or out on bail.
- Expertise in working with high-risk youth involved in the justice system.
- Willingness to work with youth who have offended violently or sexually.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively on a team and with other community professionals.
- Excellent crisis management skills.
- Excellent understanding of safety in at-risk situations.
- Excellent people and communication skills.
- Excellent organization skills.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
ISSP Responsibilities:
- Provide intensive support and supervision to justice-involved youth.
- Monitor and report non-compliance to Youth Probation Officer.
- Support youth to engage in education, employment, and prosocial activities.
- Review Violent Risk Assessments and follow safety protocols.
- Collaborate with probation officers, families, and care teams to develop individualized service plans.
- Deliver a minimum of two one-on-one support activities and two phone check-ins per youth each week.
- Maintain regular contact with caregivers and other key supports.
- Provide crisis support, harm reduction education, and conflict resolution coaching.
- Submit monthly written reports to probation and statistical reporting to funders.
- Maintain detailed case notes and digital records.
- Completes all mandatory training.
- Performs other relevant duties as required.
Youth Support Responsibilities:
- Conduct needs assessments and collaboratively develop service plans and discharge reports.
- Support youth in accessing crisis services, navigating community resources, and managing family dynamics.
- Engage youth in recreational and self-esteem-building activities.
- Provide transportation or accompany youth on transit to appointments as needed.
- Facilitate life skills development in both individual and group settings.
- Attend and contribute to care team meetings and community partnerships.
- Maintain awareness of trends, risks, and best practices related to youth development and support.
- Completes all mandatory training.
- Performs other relevant duties as required.
General:
- Wage rate as per BCGEU Collective Agreement, Adult, Youth, and/or Child Worker – Grid 11 - $27.54
- This position requires Union membership.
- This position is open to all persons.
- This position requires successful completion of a criminal record check.
- This position reports to the Youth Services Coordinator.
