Job Title: Intake Worker (Trauma Program) / Cultural Coordinator

Reports to: Executive Director

1. Job Overview

Coordinate and manage intake of relatives (clients) for the trauma program.
Serve as the Cultural Coordinator, supporting the integration of First Nations culture within the program by ensuring cultural practices, ceremonies, teachings, and resources are respected and available to relatives (clients), staff, and Elders.

2. Key Responsibilities – Intake Worker (Trauma Program)

Review intake packages submitted by referral workers for relatives (clients) interested in attending the trauma program (suitability/relative and staff safety are always to be kept in mind).
Maintain program files, record-keeping systems, and perform other clerical duties as needed.
Consult with management and staff regarding relative (client) suitability for the program.
Interact with referral agents by phone, email, and fax.
Work cooperatively as a member of the Helping House.
Provide reports as required.
Attend weekly case conferences.
Ensure all previous relative (client) files are archived on exit and re-activated on new admission.
Provide information to the public, relatives (clients), and others concerning Centre services.
Support Client Services when required.

3. Key Responsibilities – Cultural Coordinator

Emphasize the importance and value of First Nations culture in the care and support of relatives (clients).
Create a positive and supportive atmosphere for visitors and relatives (clients).
Provide a positive role model and create a positive environment at the Centre.
Relate positively to relatives (clients) and encourage them in their cultural and program development.
Participate in training, staff meetings, and Circle.
Keep track of inventory needed for ceremonies.
Ensure the Cultural Support Person has all needed supplies.
Provide cultural teachings for new relatives (clients).
Keep in contact with the RHSW team to avoid double booking.
Be present with the Cultural Support Person during ceremonies.
Screen and book Elders for the Program and consult with and respond to the needs of Elders in the Centre.

4. Minimum Training/Experience Requirements

Completion of High School and a computer & business program, including skills in Microsoft Office.
All work and practice must meet Work Safe Standards.
Intimate familiarity with First Nations culture.
Minimum of 2 years abstinence from alcohol and mind-altering drugs; must role model and maintain an abstinent lifestyle.

5. Desired Additional Training/Experience Qualifications

Good physical health, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Respectful, helpful, and reassuring attitude.
Willingness to learn about trauma and its treatment and develop basic counseling skills.
Two or more years of experience in a responsible position requiring administrative skills, confidentiality, and high-level computer programming skills.
