Location: Office location is in Brampton; service locations are Brampton, Mississauga, North Etobicoke and Dufferin (Orangeville)
Position Type: Full-time permanent
Salary Range: $54,200 to $61,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Plus, a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and RRSP contributions.

Friends & Advocates Peel is a registered charity, community-based mental health organization serving those aged 16 and over. Since 1986, Friends & Advocates Peel has provided social rehabilitation and recreation programs to the communities of Brampton, Mississauga, Dufferin and North Etobicoke. We are passionate about providing clients with opportunities to develop strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. Our goal is for clients to achieve success in respect of the determinants of health (a safe place to live, ways and means to contribute to the community, and the development and maintenance of positive relationships with self/family/friends) by providing skill development opportunities which include psycho-social support, education, training, social interaction and assertive life skills.
Position Summary:
The Intake & Community Programs Worker is a key member of our team, responsible for welcoming new clients, facilitating intake assessments, and supporting client engagement across our social rehabilitation and recreation programs. This role is ideal for a compassionate and organized individual with a strong understanding of community-based mental health services and a client-centered approach. Working under the direction of the Program Team Lead, the Intake & Community Programs Worker plays a vital role in ensuring smooth onboarding, personalized support, and effective coordination of services for program participants.
Key Responsibilities Summary:
Client Intake & Onboarding
•Conduct intake interviews via phone, virtual, or in-person settings with new clients, ensuring a welcoming and trauma-informed approach.
•Explain program offerings, eligibility criteria, and the organization’s philosophy and values to new clients.
•Maintain accurate and confidential documentation using CRMS.
•Participate in team meetings and contribute to service access planning.
Program Support
•Assist clients with goal setting and develop individual support plans to encourage their participation and engagement.
•Support client attendance and participation across group programs and community-based activities.
•Collaborate with the program team to coordinate logistics, respond to client needs, and promote inclusive, supportive programming.
Client Advocacy & Referrals
•Provide brief case coordination, system navigation, and referrals to appropriate community supports and resources.
•Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local services and build relationships with community partners.
Outreach & Engagement
•Participate in outreach activities to promote the organization’s services and engage potential clients.
•Attend community events and resource fairs to represent Friends & Advocates Peel as needed.
Documentation & Reporting
•Maintain accurate client records and case notes in a timely manner.
•Contribute to program reports and evaluation efforts by tracking client progress and engagement.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
•Post-secondary education in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health, or a related human services field.
•2+ years of related experience in a community-based, client-centered environment.
•Experience with intake processes and CRMS, program coordination, or direct client support in the mental health field is preferred.
•Experience facilitating social, recreational, or rehabilitation programs is highly preferred.
•Experience working with vulnerable or marginalized populations.
Skills & Abilities
•Excellent facilitation skills and the ability to lead engaging group activities for diverse populations.
•Knowledge of social rehabilitation, community engagement strategies, and recreational programming.
•Demonstrate understanding of mental health, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction principles.
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a variety of clients, staff, and community partners.
•Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
•Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Assets:
•WRAP Level 1 or WRAP Facilitator Certification (or willingness to obtain).
•Experience with Canva, MS Office, and virtual facilitation via Zoom.
•Understanding of the mental health system and community resources in the Peel Region.
•Certification in Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, SAFE Talk or Trauma-Informed Care.
•Experience working with vulnerable or marginalized populations.
Other Requirements:
•A valid driver’s license and full-time access to a reliable vehicle.
•A vulnerable sector screening is required.
Working Conditions:
•Combination of office-based and community locations.
•Full time with occasional evening or weekend hours.
